Alonso de Tejeda: Quis dabit capiti meo

This setting by Alonso de Tejeda (c. 1540-1628) of Quis dabit capiti meo text is very different from others by Costanzo Festa, Heinrich Isaac or the one by Vivanco also published in Ars Subtilior

Tejeda's motet is settled in a bright tone (the 8th) with a "major" sonority. However, as it occurs in Circumdederunt me by Morales, this sonority implies in fact a dramatic sense of the text.

Quis dabit capiti meo aquam,
quis oculis meis fontem lacrymarum dabit,
ut nocte fleam, ut luce fleam?
Sic turtur viduus solet,
sic cygnus moriens solet,
sic luscinia conqueri.
Heu, miser!
O, dolor, dolor!
